African Fabrics

I love the African look
It portrays a classy hook
From the Kente and Chitenge
These fabrics smell like home

In the vast terrains of Uganda
Where the Mutuba trees grow
Materials are acquired for Oluboga
These fabrics smell like home

As I walk through the Kenyan soil
People are sharp and well dressed
Women in Vikoi, couples in Ankara
These fabrics smell like home

We visit the Maasai Mara
The air fresh of generosity and culture
Maasai shuka are our blankets at night
These fabrics smell like home

I watch my friends’ traditional ceremony
The sense of fashion and taste is crystal clear
The shweshwe dress and shirt are all lovely
These fabrics smell like home

I long to visit Egypt and Ethiopia
I would love to buy my grandma a linen
I hear Egyptian cotton is adorned with jewels
These fabrics smell like home
