These layers I peel,
Aligned in smooth agreement,
Pure union of inside and out,
Secret core and surface.
These layers I peel,
Scent clings to my fingers,
Tears blinding my eyes,
I flay through husk and bark,
Carefully,
To undress the core within.
These layers I peel,
Guided by its intricate chambers,
Stinging vapors, imbibe me,
Blood then heart,
Addicted to the chase.
These layers I peel,
Eager,
Beyond this sting,
Doused by pungent streaks,
Beyond these purple pearly gates,
Plastered into corpulent walls.
A promise of light,
Like the glinting red rays of a setting sun,
To color my world golden.
